cora & Duane

Cora and Duane

As some of you know, Cora Tucker, the Klamath-Lake Director for the last five years, has been working full-time for CEF for the last nine years with virtually no breaks.  She was helping teach Good News Clubs for several years before that.  A year ago, she got married, which added another layer of responsibilities to what was already a considerable load!  She asked for a Sabbatical, a time to rest, spend time with her husband (who is a truck driver and is often away for long periods of time), and grow in the Lord.  She will be missed, and we very much hope she’ll be returning at the end of the Sabbatical, but in the meantime, several people have stepped up to cover her responsibilities in the office and elsewhere.  We praise the Lord for them, and ask your prayers for Cora and Duane, and for those of us helping in the office.   We are continuing to support Cora so she can truly rest and not have to take a job.

Rae Teaching at Teacher Training Class

GOOD NEWS CLUBS-Teachers began their training this year with a retreat September 23-25  and then met Monday morning, Oct. 3, to begin Teacher Training Classes with teachers Rae Arnold and Mona Boggs. Sandi Masterson is also starting up two JYC clubs for 7-9th graders, one in Klamath Falls and one in Chiloquin.   There are still several elementary schools with no Good News Club — please pray with us for teachers for clubs in those schools

This year, our lessons begian with Samuel and Saul,  leading up to King David.  Then we will move to the Early Christians and the Apostle Paul to finish out this year.  The teachers are excited to see what the new year will bring — please pray with them for the children in their clubs!

JYC JYouConnection-God has provided openings in Klamath Falls and Chiloquin for another CEF ministry: JYou Connection, or JYC, which stands for Jesus and You Connection.  The JYC is a ministry to Middle School age children which can be held in the public school, and like the Good News Club, both presents the Gospel and gives challenges for the saved to live according to God’s ways.

The JYC is more discussion and missions oriented than the Good News Clubs are, and can also serve as a way to get the young men and women interested in serving with CYIA or as a Summer Missionary with CEF or with another missions organization.

We are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to help with the JYou Connection.  Sandi Masterson is heading this new ministry up, but she needs willing-hearted helpers.

If you have a child in grades 7-9 who would be interested in attending JYC, please call the CEF office at 541-884-5153.

Klamath-Lake CEF Retreat was a great success! Retreat attendees on Bridge

Most of our teachers and a few helpers were able to attend our Retreat on September 23-25 at Mountain Lakes Bible Camp.   It was a wonderful time of Bible study, prayer, teacher training, workshops, and fellowship!

Doug Morse, Director of the Evergreen District (Eugene area) came and spoke  on prayer.   He encouraged us to develop personal habits of fervent, effectual prayer, and also develop a culture of prayer within our local CEF body.

Classes included training on leading children to Jesus Christ; classroom discipline; how to build a puppet stage (with the puppet stage, made by Paul Boggs,  raffled off to a teacher attending that session!); IPEAR (Introduce, Present, Explain, Apply, Repeat) training for teaching memory verses and songs; and more.

Workshops basically covered the materials that will be used in our Good News Clubs this year, and gave teachers a chance to start preparing those materials.

wooden easelsWooden Cross from RetreatPaul Boggs had made about thirteen easels for flannel-boards from materials donated by Columbia Wood Products, and these were raffled off at the end of the retreat.  He also made an ox yoke, in keeping with our theme verse of Matt. 11:28-30, and turned it into a beautiful cross.

CEF:  Our Culture

The ‘Culture’ of an organization is their foundation, what they stand for, how they function.  Here is the second of the six Culture Points for CEF.

Importance of the Spiritual Welfare of our Workers — It is vital that we are never satisfied to simply teach our staff the methods of how to reach children and how to train others to do so, but we must purposefully invest in the spiritual lives of our staff. When CEF® staff are men and women who are primarily driven by passion for God and His glory and have a clear call from the Lord, the work will prosper. If we keep our focus on God and on His calling, then we will be sustained in times of challenge.

NEED A MOTOR HOME? Dennis and Kit Ellingson have graciously donated their 1984 31’ Itaska Wind Cruiser to us to sell, to help with finances.  It has new tires, a rebuilt transmission, runs and drives good.  Has 58,000 miles on the OD.  We are asking $5,500.  If you know anyone who is looking for a good used motor home, please have them call us for more information  at 541-884-5153.

May we e-mail your newsletter to you???

If you would like to receive the newsletter as an e-mail attachment, please send your e-mail address to us at:

Thank you!

Cora’s Notes: I miss you!  It’s crazy how much can happen in a month’s time!  Since we wrapped up classes, we’ve finished TCE1 (looks like 6 will graduate), I’ve gone to CEF’s National Conference and had a vacation (was sick most of the time, too!).  By the end of this week I’ll be attending a meeting in Salem in preparation for Christian Youth in Action, all while Kathleen and I are preparing in earnest for our summer ministries.  We look forward to continuing to serve beside you this summer.  Kathleen has put together this bulletin so you can know at least some of your opportunities to serve with each other again….SO excited to see you again!

Cora

Face-painting Workshop:

Will be held 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Friday, June 18, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 225 N. 11th St., Klamath Falls.  Cost is $10 to cover materials – paints, a brush, a sponge, and curriculum will be provided for each participant. We’ll be using the Wordless Book colors; the goal is to learn how to better utilize face-painting to teach the Gospel using the Wordless Book story.  Normally we do this at fairs and so on, but it’s also a great idea for Vacation Bible Schools, 5-Day-Clubs, and any kind of children’s party.   If you would like to attend (ages 7 on up are welcome), please let us know by June 4 so we know how many paint sets to order.

Bibles for Children:

One of the things that Cora brought back from the National CEF Conference was information on how to order free Bibles for our children!!   We can order KJV, NKJV, and NIV in the whole Bible or just New Testaments.   We plan to make an order soon, if you’d like to add to that order; and we can order again later in the year.  These Bibles are for children who don’t have a Bible and would like to have one.  Presenting the child’s Bible is a good opportunity for a visit to their home and a chance to talk with the parents.  Please let us know how many you need by calling the CEF office at 541-884-5153 or e-mailing us at kathleen@klamathlakecef.com .

Summer Blitz:  August 16-20

If you haven’t signed up yet, please call or e-mail the office to let us know your availability.  Training days for the Blitz will be August 10 (just for teachers) and August 14, for teachers, helpers, and church volunteers.

Flannel-background Coloring Workshop will be held on July 12, 10:00 am, at Mona Boggs home in Sprague River.  We will learn how to color backgrounds for flannel-board scenes.  Some backgrounds will be available to purchase – please let Mona or Rae know right away if there is something in particular that you’d like to have for the upcoming year.

Fairs this summer!

We will have a CEF booth at all the local fairs this summer, including Klamath County Fair, Lake County Fair, and Butte Valley/Tulelake Fair.  Klamath County Fair is August 5-8; Lake County Fair is September 2-6; and the Butte Valley/Tulelake Fair is September 8-12.

We will have a training day before the fairs begin; we’ll let everyone know the date soon.

If you are willing to help at one or more of the fairs, please let us know!  We can pencil you in now and firm up schedules later.

Teacher Timeline:

Now: Pray for children, schools, teachers, helpers, supporting churches.

August: Meet with principal; plan how to advertise (check on Open Houses, etc.).

August 2: Syllabus Workshop

August 30: GNC Teacher Meeting (all day – bring your club helpers)

September: Call families whose children have already attended Good News Clubs.

September 27: Teacher Meeting

Merrill — Good News in the Park

July 24, Noon to 4 pm, in Merrill.  Terry and Gordon Aguiar are organizing an outreach for their community.  They hope to have games and a barbeque, several booths from different ministries including CEF, and a whole lot of fun!  This is still in the planning stages (even the name isn’t set in stone!), so if you’d like to be there, call Terry at 541-798-5737.   If you’d like to help with the CEF booth, please let us know at the office.

5-Day-Clubs will be held the weeks of June 28 and July 5, in addition to the clubs during the Blitz.  If you would like to sponsor a club in your neighborhood, or know someone who would, please let us know!  Teachers and materials will be provided; the host provides snacks and the children.

Good News Club Prayer Requests, April 18, 2011

adores His providence, secures His aid.” E.M. Bounds

State coordinators/directors are key leaders in the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship.  Hawaii, Kansas, Mississippi, Montana, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington DC need a key state leader. Would you ask God to provide His chosen leaders for these states?

Montana—Doug Johnson, Interim State Director

Praises:

  • Leif Halvorson is currently at Children’s Ministries Institute® and upon completion will be the director for Eastern Montana.
  • The staff for 2011 Christian Youth in Action® is almost complete.

Prayer Requests:

  • For the salvation of the children in Montana.
  • For Micah and Rachael Barnhart, who will be coordinating 5-Day Clubs this summer for the Southwest District of Montana.  They are considering working with CEF full time.
  • For a second couple we recently met with. They are considering applying for the position of coordinators for South Central District.

In Oregon, Delene Gehrke, Director of the Umpua District (Roseburg), asks for prayer for repairs that need to be made to their story house.  She also asks for prayer for Jean, whose husband Arlo is in hospice.  Pray for strength for Jean.  Praise for three new Good News Clubs!

Announcements: Tel-a-Story is a CEF ministry that provides Bible stories over the phone to children, via a toll-free number.  The stories are recorded, but at the end of the story, if they’d like to talk to a real person about salvation, they push one, and are routed to whoever is on the schedule for that time slot.  Thanks to modern computerized communications equipment, the calls can be sent anywhere, even to a cell phone, so if you have an hour or two or three a week that you could be available to counsel children for salvation, let us know! This is a great opportunity for those who have more difficulty getting out and about to still minister to the boys and girls via telephone. If you are interested, please let Cora know!

Please keep Cora in prayer for some upcoming presentations at churches — she is looking for more opportunities to share the CEF ministry with local churches (if you would like to have her come to your church, please e-mail, or call the office at 541-884-5153).  Pray for a blessing on the opportunities that we do have.  Pray also that people would make a commitment to support CEF faithfully with prayer and financially.  Pray for Cora as she travels to visit as many of our Good News Clubs as possible.

The one-day CYIA training will be held in Roseburg on May 7 — five teens and four adults will be attending, with one other teen taking the training on a separate day.  The week-long CYIA training will be held in Salem on June 18-24; five teens will attend this training session.  These teens will then help teach 5-Day-Clubs during the summer.  If you would like to host a 5-Day-Club, please call the office to schedule a time!

Tuesday:

Merrill Elementary – Gordon & Terry Aguiar – 1:45-2:45 p.m. Pray that the children and their parents would go to a sound Bible-based church; and that they would develop their own quiet time with the Lord each day.

Keno Elementary — Doug Hallock — 3:10-4:30 p.m. Praise for a substitute who can fill in at times!  Pray for strength and wisdom for the teachers, and for a right attitude towards the Lord from the children.

Sprague River – Gale Willis, Mike Perdue, Lee Dickerson – After School Pray for the children to truly commit their hearts and lives to the Lord.  Praise that the club went better, after dividing up the younger children from the older, and separating the older boys from the older girls.  Pray for Mike and Kathy, as they are with her mother, who has only a short time left to live and needs salvation.  Pray for Kathy’s health while they are away, and pray that Mike’s father will be okay until Mike and Kathy are free to go to him.

Wednesday:

Bly (Gearhart) – Mona Boggs, Rhiana Pearson, and Sandy DeVries – 11:30-12:30 p.m. Rhiana praises the Lord for healing!  She is feeling completely well again!  Please pray that as the children learn the Wordless Book that they’ll ‘get it’ and be able to share the Gospel effectively.  Pray also that as we share the devotional packets with them, it will give them an excitement and an intention to have a daily devotion time throughout the summer.

Pat, the principal, is retiring, so there will be a new principal next year.  Pray that he or she will be open to Good News Clubs just like Pat was, or more so.  Pray about extending classes for a few more weeks, what material to use, etc.

Bonanza Elementary – Laney Boersma — 11:00-Noon Pray for the children and the teachers, that they would finish strong — this is their last week of club for this year.  Pray also that the children would retain what they have learned and not fall away from the Lord over the summer.

Fairview Elementary — Kathleen Sanderson — 2:05-3:15 p.m. Pray that the children would finish the year strong, with a commitment to learn more about God’s Word and Jesus Christ over the summer.  Pray that the children and their families would begin attending a sound, Bible-believing church if they don’t already.

Mills Elementary — Sandi Masterson — 2:05-3:30 p.m. Praise for growth in the children and pray that they continue to grow.   Pray for Reuben, who is slipping away (girls are getting his attention).  Please pray for work for Sandi.

Tulelake — Linda Massey and Dorothy Will — 1:55-2:55 p.m. Linda’s dad, Ted, is in his final days of life.  Please pray that she’ll have the opportunity to read Scripture to him and pray with him — he has accepted the Lord as Savior recently (praise the Lord).  Please pray that the newer children will make a decision during these last three lessons to follow Christ, and that we’ll be able to impress on the children how important it is to read the Bible and have daily devotions.

Thursday:

Bonanza — Laney Boersma — 11:00-Noon Same as above.

Chiloquin Elementary – Sandi Masterson – 2:30-4:00 p.m. Praise — the children GET it, and when Sherri (Sandi’s helper) was gone for a month, all the mothers came to help.  They seemed to enjoy it, too.  Prayer request — gas money and a job!

Ferguson — Neal & Kristin Pace — 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. The Ferguson Club has ended for the year.  Please pray for the children, also, that their hearts would retain what they’ve been taught about the Lord, and that they would be prepared for a new Club at Ferguson next year, Lord willing.

Living Faith Fellowship AWANA — Renee Cedarleaf 6:00 – 8:00 pm Praise for the children who are hearing God’s Word taught at the Awana club — pray that they will continue to grow in the Lord!

Malin Elementary – Rae Arnold – 1:45-2:45 p.m. Club is going well.  Pray for Jaime and Cesar, that their hearts would be opened to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior.  And pray for helpers to walk the children between the school and the GNC location.  Praise that attendance has stayed up, consistently around 27.

Stearns Elementary – Kathleen Sanderson – 2:45 p.m. — 3:55 p.m. Pray that the children, who have all professed salvation, would begin attending a Bible-believing church regularly, and that their parents/guardians would also be saved.  Pray that they would all continue to grow in the Lord.  Praise for and pray for helper Robin, as she says she’d like to prepare for more responsibility in teaching.

Triad Christian School — Terry Aguiar — 3:20-4:20 p.m. Pray for the junior high students who will be preparing and presenting a lesson for the 2nd and 3rd grade classes next week.   Pray that the children would develop their own quiet time each day with the Lord.

Would you pray with us for state coordinators/directors; these men and women are key leaders in the ministry of CEF. Kansas , Mississippi , Rhode Island , Vermont and Washington , DC each need such a leader. Would you ask God to provide His chosen leaders for these states? This week, our intercession is focused on the state of Virginia.  State Director Bill Willaford asks:  Please pray fervently for one to three protégées as successors in the Northern Virginia Chapter – one for teacher training, one for office work/literature handling and one to direct the work and facilitate public relations for this nine-county area.  Please pray for a seasoned CEF couple that could take the leadership role in the Central Virginia Chapter (Lynchburg) to work as a CEF/Liberty University partnership coach and potential director. Praise for the development of pioneering ministry in the northern Greater Richmond Chapter, where Katie Kirk has been able to expand  the ministry. Praise that the State of Virginia has allowed a person to service ministry in a work relocation program with CEF.  They are paying him 20 hours a week for 18 weeks while he does an intern ministry focus with us.

In Oregon, Lewis and Clark Chapter Director Ellen Cook (Astoria area) asks us to pray for three new committee members; pray for development of clear vision and strategic planning for their chapter, and for committee unity and wisdom.

This is a great opportunity for those who have more difficulty getting out and about to still minister to the boys and girls via telephone. There will be another one-time training for those interested in counseling, held April 11 from 12:45 til 2:15 at Immanuel Baptist Church (after Teacher Training Class).

Tuesday:

Merrill Elementary – Gordon & Terry Aguiar – 1:45-2:45 p.m. Please pray for Gabby – she was told by two other girls that they wouldn’t be her friends because she goes to Good News Club.  Pray for Benjamin and Erika, new believers, that they would grow in their faith and read their Bibles.

Keno Elementary — Doug Hallock — 3:10-4:30 p.m. Praise for a substitute who can fill in at times!  Pray for strength and wisdom for the teachers, and for a right attitude towards the Lord from the children.

Sprague River – Gale Willis, Mike Perdue, Lee Dickerson – After School Praise that there were twelve children at the first Tuesday club!  Pray that God will bring the ones that HE wants to be there.  Pray also that the children will be respectful and listen in class, and for peace in their homes.  Pray for Daniel, who has a difficult situation right now.  Pray also for Ron and Sabrina.  Pray for perseverance for the teachers, that they, as well as the children, will be able to ‘finish strong.’

Bonanza Elementary – Laney Boersma — 11:00-Noon Pray that for these remaining months of this year our teaching may be effective and that the children may have a clear understanding of God’s love for them. Pray that they may make a decision to follow and trust Jesus.

Fairview Elementary — Kathleen Sanderson — 2:05-3:15 p.m. Pray that the children would finish the year strong (we are in our last quarter), growing in the Lord.  Praise for a possible new teacher for next year!  Pray for Kathleen, as she prepares to begin homeschooling a young relative.

Living Faith Fellowship AWANA — Renee Cedarleaf 6:00 – 8:00 pm Renee attended the conference on March 4-5, and realized that while she’d been using CEF materials, and teaching the Gospel at the Awana class each Wednesday, she’d never given an invitation.  This last week, she gave an invitation, two children raised their hands, and Renee’s helper, who had also attended the conference, was able to lead them to the Lord!

Malin Elementary – Rae Arnold – 1:45-2:45 p.m. Pray for Jaime and Caesar.   Praise for the fourth-grader who said, “I love to come ’cause I feel safe and comfortable.”

Many of the children who signed up at the beginning of this year have left for other extra-curricular activities and sports. Please pray that the parents would support and view this club as an important priority. Also, please continue to pray for the Jr. High students to surrender their hearts and lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Pray that these young people would begin to hear God’s call to follow and to serve Him.

Saturday:
