Cora and Duane
As some of you know, Cora Tucker, the Klamath-Lake Director for the last five years, has been working full-time for CEF for the last nine years with virtually no breaks. She was helping teach Good News Clubs for several years before that. A year ago, she got married, which added another layer of responsibilities to what was already a considerable load! She asked for a Sabbatical, a time to rest, spend time with her husband (who is a truck driver and is often away for long periods of time), and grow in the Lord. She will be missed, and we very much hope she’ll be returning at the end of the Sabbatical, but in the meantime, several people have stepped up to cover her responsibilities in the office and elsewhere. We praise the Lord for them, and ask your prayers for Cora and Duane, and for those of us helping in the office. We are continuing to support Cora so she can truly rest and not have to take a job.

Rae Teaching at Teacher Training Class
GOOD NEWS CLUBS-Teachers began their training this year with a retreat September 23-25 and then met Monday morning, Oct. 3, to begin Teacher Training Classes with teachers Rae Arnold and Mona Boggs. Sandi Masterson is also starting up two JYC clubs for 7-9th graders, one in Klamath Falls and one in Chiloquin. There are still several elementary schools with no Good News Club — please pray with us for teachers for clubs in those schools
This year, our lessons begian with Samuel and Saul, leading up to King David. Then we will move to the Early Christians and the Apostle Paul to finish out this year. The teachers are excited to see what the new year will bring — please pray with them for the children in their clubs!
JYC JYouConnection-God has provided openings in Klamath Falls and Chiloquin for another CEF ministry: JYou Connection, or JYC, which stands for Jesus and You Connection. The JYC is a ministry to Middle School age children which can be held in the public school, and like the Good News Club, both presents the Gospel and gives challenges for the saved to live according to God’s ways.
The JYC is more discussion and missions oriented than the Good News Clubs are, and can also serve as a way to get the young men and women interested in serving with CYIA or as a Summer Missionary with CEF or with another missions organization.
We are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to help with the JYou Connection. Sandi Masterson is heading this new ministry up, but she needs willing-hearted helpers.
If you have a child in grades 7-9 who would be interested in attending JYC, please call the CEF office at 541-884-5153.
Klamath-Lake CEF Retreat was a great success!
Most of our teachers and a few helpers were able to attend our Retreat on September 23-25 at Mountain Lakes Bible Camp. It was a wonderful time of Bible study, prayer, teacher training, workshops, and fellowship!
Doug Morse, Director of the Evergreen District (Eugene area) came and spoke on prayer. He encouraged us to develop personal habits of fervent, effectual prayer, and also develop a culture of prayer within our local CEF body.
Classes included training on leading children to Jesus Christ; classroom discipline; how to build a puppet stage (with the puppet stage, made by Paul Boggs, raffled off to a teacher attending that session!); IPEAR (Introduce, Present, Explain, Apply, Repeat) training for teaching memory verses and songs; and more.
Workshops basically covered the materials that will be used in our Good News Clubs this year, and gave teachers a chance to start preparing those materials.

Paul Boggs had made about thirteen easels for flannel-boards from materials donated by Columbia Wood Products, and these were raffled off at the end of the retreat.
He also made an ox yoke, in keeping with our theme verse of Matt. 11:28-30, and turned it into a beautiful cross.
CEF: Our Culture
The ‘Culture’ of an organization is their foundation, what they stand for, how they function. Here is the second of the six Culture Points for CEF.
Importance of the Spiritual Welfare of our Workers — It is vital that we are never satisfied to simply teach our staff the methods of how to reach children and how to train others to do so, but we must purposefully invest in the spiritual lives of our staff. When CEF® staff are men and women who are primarily driven by passion for God and His glory and have a clear call from the Lord, the work will prosper. If we keep our focus on God and on His calling, then we will be sustained in times of challenge.
NEED A MOTOR HOME? Dennis and Kit Ellingson have graciously donated their 1984 31’ Itaska Wind Cruiser to us to sell, to help with finances. It has new tires, a rebuilt transmission, runs and drives good. Has 58,000 miles on the OD. We are asking $5,500. If you know anyone who is looking for a good used motor home, please have them call us for more information at 541-884-5153.
May we e-mail your newsletter to you???

Thank you!
Cora’s Notes: I miss you! It’s crazy how much can happen in a month’s time! Since we wrapped up classes, we’ve finished TCE1 (looks like 6 will graduate), I’ve gone to CEF’s National Conference and had a vacation (was sick most of the time, too!). By the end of this week I’ll be attending a meeting in Salem in preparation for Christian Youth in Action, all while Kathleen and I are preparing in earnest for our summer ministries. We look forward to continuing to serve beside you this summer. Kathleen has put together this bulletin so you can know at least some of your opportunities to serve with each other again….SO excited to see you again!

Face-painting Workshop:
Will be held 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Friday, June 18, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 225 N. 11th St., Klamath Falls. Cost is $10 to cover materials – paints, a brush, a sponge, and curriculum will be provided for each participant. We’ll be using the Wordless Book colors; the goal is to learn how to better utilize face-painting to teach the Gospel using the Wordless Book story. Normally we do this at fairs and so on, but it’s also a great idea for Vacation Bible Schools, 5-Day-Clubs, and any kind of children’s party. If you would like to attend (ages 7 on up are welcome), please let us know by June 4 so we know how many paint sets to order.
Bibles for Children:
One of the things that Cora brought back from the National CEF Conference was information on how to order free Bibles for our children!! We can order KJV, NKJV, and NIV in the whole Bible or just New Testaments. We plan to make an order soon, if you’d like to add to that order; and we can order again later in the year. These Bibles are for children who don’t have a Bible and would like to have one. Presenting the child’s Bible is a good opportunity for a visit to their home and a chance to talk with the parents. Please let us know how many you need by calling the CEF office at 541-884-5153 or e-mailing us at kathleen@klamathlakecef.com .
Summer Blitz: August 16-20
If you haven’t signed up yet, please call or e-mail the office to let us know your availability. Training days for the Blitz will be August 10 (just for teachers) and August 14, for teachers, helpers, and church volunteers.
Flannel-background Coloring Workshop will be held on July 12, 10:00 am, at Mona Boggs home in Sprague River. We will learn how to color backgrounds for flannel-board scenes. Some backgrounds will be available to purchase – please let Mona or Rae know right away if there is something in particular that you’d like to have for the upcoming year.
Fairs this summer!
We will have a CEF booth at all the local fairs this summer, including Klamath County Fair, Lake County Fair, and Butte Valley/Tulelake Fair. Klamath County Fair is August 5-8; Lake County Fair is September 2-6; and the Butte Valley/Tulelake Fair is September 8-12.
We will have a training day before the fairs begin; we’ll let everyone know the date soon.
If you are willing to help at one or more of the fairs, please let us know! We can pencil you in now and firm up schedules later.
Teacher Timeline:
Now: Pray for children, schools, teachers, helpers, supporting churches.
August: Meet with principal; plan how to advertise (check on Open Houses, etc.).
August 2: Syllabus Workshop
August 30: GNC Teacher Meeting (all day – bring your club helpers)
September: Call families whose children have already attended Good News Clubs.
September 27: Teacher Meeting
Merrill — Good News in the Park
July 24, Noon to 4 pm, in Merrill. Terry and Gordon Aguiar are organizing an outreach for their community. They hope to have games and a barbeque, several booths from different ministries including CEF, and a whole lot of fun! This is still in the planning stages (even the name isn’t set in stone!), so if you’d like to be there, call Terry at 541-798-5737. If you’d like to help with the CEF booth, please let us know at the office.
5-Day-Clubs will be held the weeks of June 28 and July 5, in addition to the clubs during the Blitz. If you would like to sponsor a club in your neighborhood, or know someone who would, please let us know! Teachers and materials will be provided; the host provides snacks and the children.
